Change in Action October 8, 2008

Here at the writers roundtable we sometimes talk about the roadblocks to our work which life inevitably places before us. Mostly, those impediments are emotional or practical. Occasionally, they’re physical. This week, I’ve smashed directly into one of those.
I’ve been working a great deal lately, work that required hours of extra typing, work that has inflamed the poor little tendons in my right wrist causing persistent burning pain.
So I’m supposed to be “resting” from the keyboard.
While my typing is restricted, my thoughts are roaming free…so hopefully there will be good writing ideas born of this imposed moodling time. *smiles*
The roundtable discussion will go on, however, and I will offer a quote on writing for you to consider in your own moodling and writing time. Respond on your blog, in your personal journals, or just here in the comments.
Without further ado, one of my all time favorite mantra’s:
Words are a form of action, capable of producing change.
Ingrid Bengis
Write on.

I hope you’re feeling better soon!
What a great mantra. I’d never read that one before, but it is so true.
Hope your arm is feeling better soon. I’ve had that same trouble and now my husband insists I do finger stretches everyday. That has helped a great deal. Are you participating in NaNoWriMo?
Love your blog! Thanks for the topic:

Hope your arm gets gbetter soon. Two years back, I dislocated my right elbow. It was SO bad!
I wrote poetry after so long. It was effortless for one and suppose suits the prompt.

I’m back – now I’m leaving my link: http://mymuseandme.blogspot.com/2008/10/write-on-wednesday_08.html
Get better soon!
Hello again,
In the spirit of today’s topic, I thought I’d post the 8 Rules of Writing Fiction by Kurt Vonnegut today.
Enjoy!

Hope your wrist feels better soon – nothing worse than a work inflicted pain! You posed quite a challenge so late in the evening, but I’ve lived up to it, I hope. Here is my throwaway contribution… http://51stories.wordpress.com/2008/10/08/write-on-wednesday-words-in-action/
Get well soon!
Be kind to your hands.
I just unloaded a few thoughts on this quote. Thanks

Thanks for sacrificing your hands for us. Rest up and be patient.
Bonnie
I’m going to write with your inspiration.

Morning, Becca ~
Imagine my surprise when I came by just now for the new prompt – surprised because today is Thursday, and surprised and chagrined to hear of your affliction. Generally, it’s not good to be constantly aware of any body part – give that wrist the rest it needs and deserves so you can be fully back writing soon!
The quotation has helped me understand something about my recent inability to write – be back soon with a few words about that.
Thank you so much – you always seem to have the “word” I need.
Linda
Take care of yourself, Becca. Lots of rest for that wrist, okay?

Hi, Becca! Yup, thursday already. Rest the wrist and enjoy a literal change of pace. I’ll be back later. Must mull before I moodle!
Sorry I’m late getting you this link: http://keepthisonthedl.blogspot.com/2008/10/write-on-wednesday_08.html
I wish I could send you the words that would calm the inflammation in your wrist and return you to the writing world again. Words, unfortunately, do not seem to be able to effect that kind of change. Maybe a prayer? Hope you are feeling better soon!
I just read about your blog and here I am!
That happened to me some years ago when I was still living in Brazil and I should had spent a while far from a keyboard… I should but I couldn’t. Work, work, work.
Awesome quotation! Unfortunately I don’t write, it is a special gift some people have, I’m not one of them but I read and to appreciate the good work of those who know how to use their words to change the world, or at least try, is one of my great pleasures.
Take care!
Oh, Becca! DO get better soon! You did admirably writing as much as you did, but you need to heal — hopefully before next Wednesday!
I’m posted at http://themarmeladegypsy — actually, that has the link to my other blog, http://chopsticksandstring if you want to go directly to it. (But you’ll miss out on my vacation to Canada!)
Cheers!

Duh.
Okay, Edublogs is working again so I have my post ready to share. Time gave me thinking time as I fasted for Yom Kippur and took a ride to break the holiday with my family.
So here’s my Write On Wednesday contribution, sure to be controversial

Hi, I made it! (fri nite!!!) My entry is at http://westcobich.wordpress.com/2008/10/10/write-on-wednesday-on-thursday-no-friday/
I’m not sure whether I don’t have much to say on this topic, or too much (and I’m having a hard time getting it onto paper), but here’s my take:
Change is inevitable. The question is not if, but how. Your choice, then, is either to act, or to be acted upon.
From that point of view, writing is definitely an agent of change: just showing up and putting words on paper reflects a choice, reflects values, that reinforced over time, shape and define at least your own history.
And on a personal note, if I hadn’t been blogging, I wouldn’t have met all these other wonderful writers, and my life would be greatly diminished.
Sending well wishes. Awesome blog.
I know about the wrist thing, Becca. I get it by the end of summer with all the typing. I use braces when I sleep and that helps. Hope you are un-inflamed by now!
I had to do a book review this week, so I skipped the prompt. Hopefully you will be well and I will be back next week.
Ohhh Becca I am so sorry to hear of your pain, my heart goes out to you, please take it easy.
Your mantra is spot on, especially for people like me who’ve been known to have the mouth in drive and the brain in neutral.
Thank You Becca for taking the time and effort here. Get well soon
As a fellow carpal tunnel sufferer, I feel your pain quite literally. I hope yours eases soon, and you can return to writing.
Meanwhile, here’s my response to your mantra:
Words as Weapons
Great topic. I will be back online later (storms moving in) and post my reply.
